Frequently Asked Questions
What are sheer curtains?
Sheer curtains are lightweight, translucent window treatments that soften bright sunlight and create an airy, elegant atmosphere. They allow natural light to enter while adding gentle daytime privacy and visual softness to the room.
Do sheer curtains provide privacy during the day and at night?
Sheer curtains provide limited daytime privacy by diffusing light and obscuring direct views into the room. At night, when interior lights are on, shapes and silhouettes may remain visible, so heavier drapery or shades are recommended when stronger evening privacy is needed.
What is the difference between sheer and semi-sheer curtains?
Sheer curtains use a more open, translucent fabric for maximum daylight and an airy appearance. Semi-sheer curtains have a denser weave that still filters natural light while providing greater privacy and slightly more visual coverage.
Can sheer curtains be layered with blackout curtains or heavier drapery?
Yes. Sheer curtains layer beautifully behind heavier drapery or blackout curtains. The sheer layer provides softly filtered daylight during the day, while the outer curtain can be closed for stronger privacy, darkness, and additional comfort.
Can sheer curtains be motorized or made for oversized windows?
Yes. Sheer curtains can be operated manually or installed on a motorized track controlled by remote, smartphone, tablet, schedule, or compatible smart-home automation. They can also be custom-crafted for oversized, unusually shaped, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
How much do custom sheer curtains cost?
Pricing depends on the window dimensions, selected fabric, curtain fullness, track configuration, operating system, motorization, and installation requirements. A professional consultation and precise measurement are recommended for an accurate custom quote.
